However if you want to trade as "Brown and White Lawn Mowing Service" or as "James Brown & Cynthia White Lawn Mowing" or any other business name, then you have to register that business name.
• Company: If you are already a registered Australian company (with an Australian Company Number) and your operating name is the same as your company's name.e.g. if the company name is "Brown & White Lawn Mowing Pty Ltd" and if you want to trade as "Brown & White Lawn Mowing Pty Ltd", then you do not need to register a business name. However, if you trade as "B & W Lawn Mowing" or any other name, your company will need to register that business name.

You must ensure that you:

• are required to register a business name;
• have an Australian Business Number (ABN) or an ABN application reference number (when you apply for an ABN, you are instantly allotted a "ABN reference number" if an ABN is not instantly issued) of the entity which is going to own the business name, and
• have the details of the legal entity which is going to own the business name.
