Valuation of non listed assets in light of CGT Relief and Balance Transfer Cap

Valuation of non-listed assets for 30th June 2017 can be a double edged sword for Self Managed Super Funds where the members age are close to retirement phase or are already on pension and their member balances are close to $1.6M, the amount which can move to retirement phase, specially where there is growth in asset values and where the trustees want to avail the CGT relief.

Note that time is running out for late lodgers where the income tax return has to be lodged by 31st October 2017 and CGT relief claimed. ATO has made it clear that no CGT relief will be made available beyond the funds lodgement date.

Our SMSF Technical Director Manoj Abichandani is presenting a free webinar for SMSF Auditors where he will discuss the various issues facing trustees and administrators and how auditors should be checking that correct market valuation has been used by the trustees of the fund in the financial statements. Topics are:-

- Requirements for property valuations as per SIS Act and Regulations

- What the auditor needs to check that correct market valuation has been used in fianancial statements

- CGT Relief Vs Breaching the balance transfer cap - which one should the trustees choose

- Strategies around valuation of non-listed assets
